Job hunting is a very complex process that can sometimes be daunting. Sending out resumes can be as time consuming as a full-time job. So here are a few tips to ensure that your resume will get recruiters to contact you!
First of all, you have to make the recruiter’s job easy. He may receive several resumes at the same time and being concise and precise on your resume will allow the recruiter to know you quickly and to know if the job is ideal for you.
The perfect resume should be only one page long. There should not be too much information, so it is your duty to select the experiences and skills that are most relevant to the position you are applying for. It is not necessary to put all your skills, especially if you have made a change of field.
Your name, phone number, email, title and a 2-3 lines summary are all elements that should be included on your resume. The use of a photo is at your discretion (professional, of course). It should be noted that a recruiter will most likely look for you on social networks before meeting you.
Your resume should reflect the person you are. Forget the black and white resumes of the 1990s and add some life to yours! It will make you stand out.
It is not necessary to put the address on your resume, especially if you are applying for a telework position or if you have several locations in which you have a foothold (or if you are willing to move). The presentation letter should also be avoided, unless it is requested. Recruiters often don’t have enough time to read it. If your resume is well done, it is useless.
If you have a higher education, it is not essential to add your high school to your resume (this goes without saying). Your DEC can be added only if you have acquired different skills there than your BAC, which may be relevant to the position you are applying for.
Avoid writing too many hobbies, 2 or 3 are enough. Also avoid embellishing reality, always be honest on your resume!
Your resume should represent the person you are. You should be proud of it when you send it out!
